County Mayo is located on the west coast of Ireland. The county town of Mayo is Castlebar where a military barracks still operates as armed conflict has played a large part in the town's historical heritage. County Mayo is also the home of Knock Shrine, an important pilgrimage site for many Catholics and is a major tourist attraction. North Mayo has one of the greatest concentrations of Stone Age tombs in Europe.
