Famous for its sandstone hills and the large plain, Cheshire was an agricultural area famous for milk and cheese production. Salt mines were started in 1682, other local industries being the leather trade and charcoal production.
Chester is famous for its Roman ruins as well as its Tudor heritage seen in its black and white timbered buildings. Attractions in Chester include a city wall which is nearly complete, the River Dee and the Zoo. The footballer Joe Mercer was born in Ellesmere Port. |
