Civil Registration started in Malta in 1863, prior to that birth may be recorded in Parish Records which started in the 1500s. Few parish records are accessible.
The library in Valletta holds The Adami Collection which is of interest for genealogy purposes, as it has marriages listed from the Parish Registers.
Malta is a Roman Catholic Country.
The official languages are Maltese and English. Maltese is made up from Italian, Arabic, Scilian and English.
